Sex Education with Royal Flair Takes Over Amsterdam This King's Day: Vanillacooldance Returns
This King's Day, Amsterdam welcomes back Vanillacooldance's acclaimed "True King of the Bedroom" campaign for its third year. Spearheaded by artist and creative director Jessica Stahl, this initiative takes over Amsterdam with giant cartoons of the Dutch royals, stickers and condoms, injecting fun, accessibility and disruption into sex education making critical conversations impossible to ignore.
Amsterdam, April 16: Vanillacooldance's signature bold cartoons featuring life-size depictions of the Dutch Royal couple have become a viral King's Day sensations, reaching over 2.4 million people online and garnering global attention. The power lies in using humor to make taboo topics approachable for maximum impact.
This year Stahl’s campaign focusses on the important issue of sexual safety. A Vanillacooldance artwork showcasing an aroused King proudly holding a condom proclaiming 'A True King Always Has a Royal Guard' emphasises the importance of safe sex. By leveraging the holiday's royal imagery, the campaign naturally sparks intrigue and conversation.

This campaign's focus on safe sex is particularly timely. A recent study by Rutgers and SOA Aids revealed a concerning decline in condom use among young people in The Netherlands with the percentage of those not using condoms rising from 25% for boys and 36% for girls in 2012, to 40% for boys and 46% for girls by 2023.

"Sex is still shrouded in shame," says Jessica Stahl, the artist and sexual empowerment advocate behind the taboo-breaking cartoon @vanillacooldance. "This silence leads to a lack of open communication, which directly impacts safe sex practices. My mission is to create shameless conversations. When people see my art, they engage, they talk – that's how we break down the stigma and empower healthy choices around sex.”

The campaign will be rolled out through Vanillacooldance's socials, an educational blog, and iconic street takeovers. Stickers and custom illustrated condoms will be distributed throughout the city by volunteer fans of Stahl’s message, ensuring everyone has access to the tools for safe exploration. Royal Intimacy, a brand focused on developing healthier, and inclusive sexual wellness products, is generously supplying the condoms.

And this year, Stahl isn't going at it alone. WOMEN Inc., Umaversity, and Mail & Female have all joined forces to amplify the campaign message, recognizing its valuable contribution to sexual health awareness.

You are royally invited to join the campaign!
On Sunday, April 21st, Vanillacooldance is hosting a kick-off event at De Nieuwe Anita, inviting everyone to join a "stickering" party and Q&A. This donation-based event rallies and unites the community behind the cause. Space is limited, so RSVP. RSVP.
